  • From Aspiring Therapist to Budding Marketer: The College Journey to Career Discovery

Hi! My name is Liz Knopp. I am a senior at University of Colorado Boulder, majoring in Psychology with minors in Business and Sociology. When I first began college in 2022, I was planning on pursuing my love of helping others by becoming a therapist. However, through the course of my freshman year, I realized that being a therapist was not the route I wanted to take in order to achieve this goal. During this time, I received an email from my school advertising the Business minor program that includes introductory courses on various realms of business and gives students a chance to apply these skills in a capstone project senior year. I was immediately intrigued and applied to the program as I realized I could apply my skills in the business world to help people. One of the first business classes I took was Principles of Marketing, and I quickly realized that it was a great fit for me, as understanding human behavior is essential to successful marketing decisions. As a budding marketer, I have yet to narrow down exactly which area of marketing I wish to pursue, however, my interests include: Marketing analytics: combining my analytical thinking skills with my knowledge on buyer behavior to understand and address marketing questions and concerns Strategy: advising businesses on the execution and management of marketing campaigns Social media management: using my love for social media to run social media pages for a company I’m currently in my hometown, Colorado Springs, for the summer living with my mom and my brother. I’m really excited to expand my knowledge in marketing this summer as a WINtern and learn more about the ins and outs of different types of marketing strategies and gain experience in these fields. This summer, along with the WINternship, I will be continuing my TA job for a class on Principles of Marketing from this past semester remotely and doing some freelance pet sitting. I also plan on completing a certification in Data Analytics via the Google Career Certificates program. In my free time, I love to be outdoors hiking, hammocking, and paddle boarding. I’m incredibly passionate about music, and spent 3rd-12th grade in an auditioned community choir called the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale. During this time, I traveled to places like Australia, New York, Hawaii, and New Orleans to sing with choirs from all around the world. While I’m no longer a part of a choir, my passion for music remains and I love finding new music and going to concerts (I've gone to 4 so far this year!). It would be a dream come true to be able to combine my love for the outdoors and/or music into my career once I graduate in 2025. I can't wait to see where this newfound interest in marketing takes me, and I would love for you all to come along for the journey! LinkedIn Instagram Spotify

  • Meet The New WINtern: Frankie Tracy

Who Am I? My name is Frankie Tracy, and I am a rising Junior at the University of Michigan studying Communications and Media with a minor in Business. I have always been fascinated by music, social media, and writing, and my passion for the three has been the driving force in my professional life. As a result, I have done a lot of work in the cross-section between these three worlds, particularly in public relations and marketing. What Am I Doing? Through my love for music and writing, I helped found a music magazine called BLUR Magazine. Through BLUR, I work as a contributing writer giving opinions on new releases, attending press conferences, and conducting interviews. I also work as the Public Relations Manager, through which I work in web design, content creation, and branding. I have also worked with a local music business club, known as MUSIC Matters, to organize and execute live shows, build talent rosters, and book and manage artists. Through my experiences at BLUR and MUSIC Matters, I have identified the roles and responsibilities I enjoy, which has helped me hone the path I hope to take through my career. I’ve found, through these projects, that I love to work specifically with content creation, creative writing, and marketing. From this understanding, I have determined that my passions would fit best in either marketing or public relations, preferably within the music industry, which has since driven my career endeavors. This summer, to further these goals, I’m excited to work as a WINtern here at Women Into Marketing, and I’m also working with the 740 Project as a creative marketing intern! Why WIN? Between rigorous class schedules, a part-time job, and a myriad of extracurricular activities, I am constantly busy learning and growing. However, these experiences have taught me invaluable life lessons about time management, organization, and how to enjoy the things around me. This motivated me to want to explore the world of marketing on a deeper level, which is what led me to WIN! I hope to gain a more in-depth understanding of social media and digital marketing from a new perspective. While I have some experience with marketing and public relations from BLUR Magazine , I love the idea of gaining more experience from the side of a nonprofit. I’m also excited for the deep dive I’ll be able to take into a specific role through the mentorship program. I’m so excited for all of the things to come this summer! Feel free to connect with me on Instagram or Linkedin .

  • Unconventional Foodie, Reader, Misguided Explorer & TV Extraordinaire

If I were to introduce myself, I'd tell you that my name is Manal Khan, and I'm an... acquired taste. I'd say that my desire to travel the entire world evidences my ambitious nature. Then, I would mention how my Pinterest board of vacation spots keeps my travel goals organized -- in reality, it is a way to procrastinate doing the work that will help me achieve said goals. I'd also refer to myself as a huge (but unconventional ) food lover and describe my search for new cuisines, knowing that I indefinitely abandon my culinary explorations the second I find something I like. I should also mention that I'm an English Literature major at the University of Houston (because who doesn't love figuring out what Shakespeare wrote about in his plays), with a minor in Public Relations. I'm new to the U.S. (sort of), having moved in 2019 after being born and raised in Dubai. For years, I was certain I wanted to be a surgeon (thank you, Grey's Anatomy), but I always loved reading and writing; studying literature helped me realize I wanted a career where I could centralize my passion for language and literary imagination. Growing up, I would always have my head buried in a book -- it's probably why I've always liked fictional worlds better than the real one. As a self-certified introvert, reading has always been my haven. However, I also have a knack for adventure, with bungee jumping and skydiving being the top things I want to try next (I may bail at the last minute). I am also a self-certified (but undefeated) TV show expert. Particularly, my love for Turkish dramas (some may call it an obsession) has resulted in me learning some of the language. Preparing for the Future Thinking about what career to pursue after graduation, I was consistently (and sometimes, frustratingly) undecided. Becoming a writer, journalist, publisher, or professor seemed amazing, but I could never choose just one. However, working on a social media campaign for this year's Comicpalooza event in one of my PR classes was seemingly the right mix of creativity and corporate to inspire me. It made me think of pursuing a career in marketing/communications, where I could experiment with language in a business-like setting. That realization is what led me to an internship at W.I.N. As my first official college internship, I wanted an educational and challenging experience. Learning about the mentorship aspect of W.I.N.'s internship program, I was undoubtedly excited to expand my previous marketing and communication knowledge. However, there are two more prominent reasons why I wanted to be a part of W.I.N.- In a world of uneven power dynamics, I wanted to be surrounded by and learn from women who had braved the often one-sided obstacles of the professional world. I was drawn to the intimacy and personal connection of working in a community , where I could foster meaningful relationships to guide my career. Let's Talk! I hope you have made it this far without falling asleep, as I would enjoy hearing any stories/experiences, advice, and career tips. Whether it's words of wisdom or an introduction, I would love to get involved and interact with everyone. If you're just getting started like me, or have been in the game for years, I am excited to learn from you! Please feel free to reach out, whether it's through my Instagram or LinkedIn .

  • Daisy Gonzalez: resilient, an anxious thinker & free-spirited.

The struggle of "Who am I ?" Daisy Gonzalez is an indecisive young individual who wants to try a taste of everything at once. My mother even tells me "tu piensas mucho" (you think too much). Do I want to be a writer, a photographer, a flight attendant, a snobby influencer, a director, a mother, a boss, a philanthropist, a teacher?.. the list goes on. My indecisiveness has constantly put me in a bubble of stress of what I want to do with my life. My mindset personally reminds me of the metaphor of the Fig Tree analogy from the “Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath.  Additionally, my idenity is a first generation Latina who has been learning to live life with my inersectionality. After I graduated high school my dream was to attend a college in new york city where I would pursue a career in the fashion industry. I was ready to become a resilent resident living in the busy city. My dream was later crushed when I realized I was not born in a privilege world where this lavish lifestyle was possible for 18 year old me. I was completely miserable. I thought my life was over. What do i do now? My selfishness later wished I was born into a rich family. I questioned the sky "why was this my life"? I decided to study at my local community college. It wasnt what I wanted but it was better than nothing. After an endless cold long fall semester of taking the basic classes (english, psychology, history, etc). I decided to take a class about social media. During the course, I realized that I have gained a massive interest in studying communications. Striving For Change  Community college was lonesome for me. I did not have the greatest social life as I just strictly prioritized only my studies and kept my head low reading endless books and dealing with an intense eating disorder. Thankfully I recovered. I decided to apply at the University of Connecticut. Thankfully I was able to be the first one in my family to attend a university after countless battles with financial aid. I am eternally grateful for my parents for investing their time and finances so I can attend UConn. Before entering univeristy I was a shy hermit in a shell. I never left my house and struggled to keep a conversation. When I first stepped on campus I was immediately terrified.I even sobbed when I was dropped off. I was dissocating the entire first few weeks of college. I slowly adapted to my new enviroment. My first year at college completely changed my life. I never experienced so many things at once. It felt like a never-ending nightmare and the best dream ever all at once. I made fair-weathered friends that I never saw again and made others that have become important in my life. One thing that struck me out was the unidvided attention from boys. this was an odd experience because i never reciaved that attention in high school. I was freaked out. I experienced the bad roommate, got way too drunk many nights, experienced east coast cold nights walking home, cried over boys, lost my best friend, and had endless nights at the library. I came out of my shell. I changed for the better. At 21 years old, I am spending my last summer as a college student. As I have more time to pond. I am entering my senior year in late August as I am extremely terrified. I am not ready. But I am extremely grateful for what college has given me. such as my friends, an education, motivation to make my parents happy, opportunitues, game days, nights out, and long pondering walks. I also stumbled upon myself in a relationship with a hazel-eyed boy who makes work on myself to be a better version of myself for him and for myself. Please feel free to connect with me on Facebook , Instagram , and LinkedIn

  • Learn All About Me - Amaya Dowling: Who I Am, What I Do, and What I Aspire To Do In My Future Endeavors

Amaya Dowling at The VSB Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights 10th Anniversary Villanova MarTech Forum - May 30, 2024, New York City Introducing Me Hello W.I.N. Community, My name is Amaya Dowling . I am currently a rising junior attending Villanova University. I am a part of Villanova University’s School of Business with a major in Marketing and a minor in Africana Studies. I am from Burlington, New Jersey, and am the youngest child in my family. My older brother attended Villanova University, Class of 2021, so he was a main motivator in my college decision choice. The various visitations and pickups during his college career encouraged me to make Villanova University my Alma mater. Why Marketing? When it came to filling out my college applications, the major selection process was a no-brainer for me. Since taking my first marketing course in high school, I have become fascinated with the business world, especially with the concept of advertising products. My high school marketing teacher played a big factor in my major selection because without her leading such an interesting class and having great enthusiasm about the subject, I do not know what I would want to do with my career in the future. I have noticed that businesses relevant to my demographic receive less funding, coverage, and resources when it comes to building their brand, so I want to be a part of the solution for equitable representation in the market. In pursuing marketing, my overall goal is to market and advertise products for underprivileged businesses as many underprivileged businesses are overlooked due to opportunity barriers. My Villanova Experience So Far Through my time here at Villanova University, I have had the opportunity to engage myself in various extracurricular activities such as: The Office of Belonging and Inclusion - Programming Ambassador The Superlative - Social Media Chair The Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights - Ambassador The Office of Belonging and Inclusion is an office that creates and supports programming that fosters and sustains a community of respect and inclusion for Villanovans with a special focus on underrepresented students. Within the Office of Belonging and Inclusion, I am a programming ambassador, so I interact with various organizations and departments on campus and enhance programming to increase student engagement. I am also a part of a dance team called The Superlative. The Superlative is an all-styles, multicultural dance team that performs to teach audiences the beauty of dance through the blending of styles. Lastly, I have recently become an ambassador for Villanova University’s Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights. For the fall semester of 2024, I will provide direction to the CMCI leadership about what is most meaningful to Marketing students and help promote events at student societies' general body meetings to ensure that they know that students of all backgrounds feel welcome in marketing. WINternship Takeaways I am very grateful for this opportunity and for being able to call myself a WINtern. Through this internship, I would like to gain knowledge on two topics: Content Marketing Creating and publishing content for a company's targeted audience to boost consumer awareness towards the brand. Social Media Marketing Using the right social media platforms to not only promote a company's products/services but also increase brand awareness for those who do not receive adequate resources to keep their business on the market and in competition with others. Final Thoughts Once again, I would like to state how grateful I am for this opportunity to become a WINtern for 2024. Thank you for learning a bit more about me, Amaya Dowling. • From Track to Tech: The Journey of an Aspiring Marketing Consultant

Hey there! I'm Tripti Tiwari, I am from Austin, TX and a junior at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, and I'm excited to share a bit about my journey as an aspiring marketing consultant and passionate advocate for women's empowerment. My Time in College  People say college is all about finding yourself. Well, I'm doing just that – balancing my love for sports as a sprinter on IU's track team with my passion for business and women's advocacy. I'm majoring in Marketing, Finance, and Business Analytics, partly so I can learn a lot and mostly because I am indecisive. :)) Advocating for Women  As an aspiring marketing consultant, I'm always on the lookout for opportunities to sharpen my skills and make a difference. One of my proudest roles is serving as the Marketing Executive for the UN Girl Up Foundation at IU. This position allows me to combine my marketing expertise with my deep-rooted passion for advancing women's education and professional opportunities. I get to create impactful campaigns that raise awareness about the importance of girls' education globally and inspire action in the community. What I am currently up to + Past Experiences I always look for opportunities where I can use my passion for productivity. This summer, I'm working with WIN, collaborating with other interns who share my passion for advocating women in the professional world. At the same time, I'm diving into the world of digital marketing at Simon Property Group. With both opportunities, I am gaining experience in marketing while indulging my interest in analytics and tech. But my journey as an aspiring marketing consultant didn't start here. I've been helping small businesses leverage social media marketing for a while now. It's amazing to see how a well-crafted social media strategy can make a huge difference for these businesses, especially women-owned enterprises. Hobbies  Aside from my professional aspirations, I am a big believer of enjoying yourself through hobbies: Piano Discovering new music - Current favorites: Drake and Kaytranada Binge-watching the latest TV show Running Anything outdoors (to balance my inner couch potato) Traveling!! - Next dream location: Brazil Looking into the Future Looking ahead, I see myself diving deeper into the consulting world, combining my marketing skills with my love for analytics. As an aspiring marketing consultant, I dream of continuing to work with small businesses, non-profits, and organizations that champion women's causes. One day I hope to open my own gym and add entrepreneur to passions!  I hope to stay connected!!

  • 50 Trailblazing Black Women Who Changed the Course of History - You Won't Believe #10!

Juneteenth, observed on June 19, is a pivotal day in American history that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. This day marks the moment in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. While Juneteenth is primarily a celebration of freedom, it also serves as an important opportunity to acknowledge and honor the significant contributions of Black women throughout history. The Historical Significance of Juneteenth Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Emancipation Day, is a symbol of liberation and a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality and justice. It represents the resilience, strength, and enduring spirit of African Americans who fought for their freedom and rights. Truth's activism laid the groundwork for future generations of Black women leaders. 3. Ida B. Wells Ida B. Wells was a pioneering journalist, educator, and early civil rights leader. She co-founded the NAACP and was a fierce advocate against lynching. Wells used her platform to shed light on the atrocities faced by African Americans and to fight for justice and equality. Her courage and dedication to the truth continue to inspire journalists and activists today. Acknowledging the Contributions of Black Women Juneteenth celebrations provide a space to honor the contributions of Black women and their impact on history and contemporary society. These celebrations often include educational events, cultural performances, and community gatherings that highlight the achievements and stories of Black women. 1. Educational Programs Educational programs and workshops during Juneteenth focus on the history of Black women's contributions to civil rights, arts, sciences, and various other fields. These programs aim to educate and inspire future generations by showcasing the achievements of trailblazing Black women. 2. Cultural Performances Cultural performances, including music, dance, and theater, celebrate the rich heritage and artistic contributions of Black women. These performances often draw from the experiences and stories of Black women, creating a powerful and emotional connection to their legacy. 3. Community Gatherings Community gatherings during Juneteenth foster a sense of unity and pride. These events provide an opportunity for individuals to come together, share their experiences, and honor the contributions of Black women in a supportive and celebratory environment. The Continued Impact of Black Women The legacy of Black women continues to shape modern movements for social justice and equality.
