Why Are Mentors Important?

There are many reasons why having mentors in life are important, they are able to give you advice and knowledge, show you encouraging ways on how to think or perform a task, strive in professional (or personal) goals, and most importantly give you someone to trust in to build you up along the way.

In my life I have had the opportunity of having a few mentors in my life, whether they have been there for a short or long period of time. A few people come to mind (family, people within my community, or in my jobs) that have impacted me either personally or professionally. Currently, I would like to talk about Sarah Curcio, my mentor from the Women Into Networking company.

Meeting Sarah through the WIN community as a Social Media Intern, I have learned a lot in the short amount of time I have worked with her, throughout the group mentorship (along with the other interns) and alongside the work I have done with her company Sarah Social Strategies. I have learned insights on social media outlets, learning your audience and reaching them, blog posts, email marketing campaigns, and even getting into event planning in the work world. Not only has she been really helpful in showing the small details of social media but the bigger picture of the things I am learning within this internship!

Personally, I do tend to get caught up in some of the work I am doing and forget to take a step back. When I had confided in Sarah about this, she was able to give her perspective on how to approach it from a different angle. Her insight has been extremely supportive!
