  • The Power of the Mentor and Mentee Relationship

The power of the mentor-mentee relationship can be extremely rewarding when both people are genuinely open to learning from each other. Mentorship is a partnership where knowledge, perspective, and encouragement flow in both directions. However, just like any relationship, finding the right fit is crucial. 6 C's to a Successful Mentor/Mentee Relationship I once participated in a mentor matchup through a class. While the idea was exciting, my mentor worked in a career field that didn't align with the path I wanted to pursue. Outside of getting to know them as a person, the connection didn't bring the professional value I was hoping for. It wasn't a wasted experience; it reminded me that mentorship isn't just about having someone assigned to you, but about finding someone who both understands your aspirations and connects with you on a personal level. When personality and career align, mentorship can create a powerful space for growth. A mentor can share insights, experience, wisdom, and even provide hands-on experience, allowing you to gain real-world knowledge in their field. Additionally, having a mentor gives you the chance to ask questions directly to someone who is working in your desired career field, while also having someone hold you accountable and support you through your journey. Specifically, my relationship with Allegra has been incredibly meaningful. We’ve connected not only on a personal level but also through her journey as an entrepreneur. It has been such a great experience to be able to ask her questions, learn from her insights, and grow through the knowledge she shares. As a mentee, I have benefited from the patience, accountability, and guidance that my mentor provides. I have learned a great deal, including gaining hands-on experience working with a client, building my portfolio, and acquiring new vocabulary and techniques required in my desired career field. Being a mentee, it is extremely important to bring energy into the relationship and to be reliable. The important takeaway is that mentorship shouldn't feel forced. It works best when there's a mutual respect, shared goals, and genuine interest in what the other person has to offer. The right mentor can inspire, guide, and challenge you, and the right mentee can do the same thing in return.

  • Five Ways to Bring Mindfulness and Self Care to Your Life

"Fall in love with taking care of yourself: mind, body, and soul." In today's world where everything can seem so fast-paced and busy it is important that we are taking our mindfulness into consideration and find ways to incorporate self-care into our routines. Everyday we are always trying to find ways to balance relationships, work, and responsibilities while also trying to find time for ourselves. Being able to recharge and rest our minds is a necessity and shouldn't be something that we take lightly. It’s how we restore our energy, improve our mood, and protect our mental health. Here are five simple but powerful ways to bring more self-care into your life, starting today. 1.Mini Resets Throughout the Day Mini resets can prevent an individual to have "burnout" and at the end of the day help you stay connected with yourself internally Build in short breaks throughout your day whether that is to take a step away to breathe, stretch, or go take a step outside to get fresh air Listening to something that brings you peace (whether that is a podcast, music, or an audio book you enjoy) or journaling your thoughts/drawing 2.Set Boundaries to Protect Your Energy Say no to things that may drain and/or overwhelm your daily or weekly schedule Limit time with the individuals that may have you feeling low and unfulfilled, activities that are draining, and protect your space to recharge 3.Taking Time to Check In Asking daily questions such as "What do I need right now mentally, physically, emotionally? OR Is your self-care actually helping you feel better? Taking time to think about these questions about self-awareness can be the foundation of self-care - it can help you respond to your needs rather than react to stress 4.Set Goals For Yourself Setting little goals for yourself can improve the feeling of stress or being overwhelmed and will increase the feeling of being accomplished and a serotonin aspect Choosing things that are a "must do" on your list and things that could possibly wait is a game changer as well. This can make those harder small tasks or simple goals that need to be done feel as if there is a bigger weight lifted. Learning to say “no” to newer tasks is a must if the pressure of starting to feel like you’re taking on too much is becoming a lot - it is important that you try to appreciate the goals you've completed throughout the day, however big or small, matter! 5.Connecting With Those Who Give You Peace The feeling of safety that you can get by surrounding yourself by friends and family that make you happy, safe, and loved is something everyone should have Having people you trust can help you discuss things that you may be struggling with at the moment and talk about your feelings so you don't have to deal with life alone As the feeling of safety increases, your ability to think about things with a clear mind will become greater and they may also be able to give you a different perspective on events happening or other ways to regulate your self-care Self-care and balance in ones life is extremely important as today's world can become filled with so many distractions and responsibilitys that take a tole on our well-being. There are many other helpful tools and tricks out there that can stabilize your life and the WIN Community is here to help. Come check out our Healthy Horizons page to see more!

  • Love Yourself! A Mini Guide to Self-Care

Many of us keep ourselves healthy by exercising, eating well, and going to get our annual check-up at the doctors, but what about self-care? It is one of the most important ways to keep yourself healthy physically and mentally, yet we tend to neglect it a lot. It is essential to our overall well-being. According to a study done in 2024 by The Profile , only 32% of women practice self-care! It is crucial to incorporate self-care into our daily routines in order to have a happy and healthy lifestyle! What is Self-Care and How Can It Help Me? Self-care is the practice of using your own knowledge to care for your own physical, mental, and emotional health to maintain your well-being For many, self-care is a way to calm yourself down when things get too overwhelming. For others, it's a way to find themselves again, especially after traumatic events, addiction, panic attacks, burnout, and other life challenges. Self-care is so special because it is tailored to you! We figure out what our likes and dislikes are through self-care practice. It also helps with confronting ourselves and learn how to accept our strengths, weaknesses, and everything in between. How Can I Practice Self-Care? It's all about you! Whatever you like to do, even if you consider it your "lazy day activity," it still counts! Here are some activities to help you get started: Read a book (my personal favorites are romance!) DIY manicure or pedicure Order in your favorite food Binge watch a show (fall season = Gilmore Girls) Physical activities aren't just for physical benefits alone, they also help many relieve stress. Here are some fun ideas to get you moving: Yoga Dance workout (learn K-Pop dances if you want to go extreme) Ride a bike Take a walk If you're more like me, homebody who loves "lazy days" on end, here are some calming activities to help you feel relaxed: Adult coloring books Take a bubble bath Breathing exercises Keep a journal or a scrapbook (it sounds cliché, but it helps me a lot!) Self-care can easily get away from us, but it's important to take a minute and show ourselves the love and compassion we deserve. Nothing is more important than your well-being. Have any other self-care tips we didn't mention? Share yours in the comments and visit our Healthy Horizons page.

  • Three Ways Women Can Stay Healthy while Supporting our Healthy Horizons

Our Healthy Horizons vision is to create a community that prioritizes health, wellness, and prevention. We know women are often expected to carry burdens for families, careers, and communities, but real strength starts with taking care of ourselves. By putting our own health first, we not only better ourselves, but we also encourage the people around us (ex. families, neighbors, etc) to live healthier, fuller lives. Here are five ways women can stay healthy while supporting and being part of the Healthy Horizons movement. Keep Up with Screenings & Check-Ups Prevention is power. Keeping time for yearly check-ups, screenings, and vaccinations enables you to catch health issues early and get the treatment you deserve. Our community health fairs and collaborations with clinics make these services more affordable and accessible through Healthy Horizons. Fuel with Intelligent Choices Healthy eating is for both body and soul. From preparing meals to portion sizes, small steps can make a big difference. Join Healthy Horizon's nutrition classes and cooking workshops to discover simple, delicious methods to add balance to your meals. Protect Your Mental Health Self-care is incomplete without taking care of your mental well-being. Paying attention, managing stress, and knowing when to seek advice are all important steps. Healthy Horizons offers stress-management workshops, mental health initiatives, and access to reminders that women don't have to go through life's challenges by themselves.

  • Prioritizing Health and Wellness: A Home-Based Guide for Busy Professionals

We understand that sometimes we are too busy to take care of ourselves. Despite this, it is important to make time for our health and well-being to lead a fulfilling life. If you're a busy professional looking to improve your health, we have five initiatives at WIN's Healthy Horizons to help you get started on the right path. 1. Health Screens & Check-Ups One of the best investments you can make for your health is getting an annual check-up. We may feel great, but sometimes sicknesses go unnoticed until it is too late. Getting health screens and check-ups allows you to be confident in your health! You shouldn’t have to pay outrageous prices to know about your health. This is why at WIN, we partner with organizations that offer free or low-cost health screenings, checkups, and vaccinations at community fairs and clinics.  2. Fitness classes & Wellness Workshops Our physical health is essential to living a long, fulfilling life. Working out at home or at the gym is a great starting point. If you’re shy to go to the gym by yourself, bring a buddy! That way, you’ll work on your physical health while socializing/spending quality time. If you live with family or have kids, going on walks after dinner or in the morning is a great way to spend time together. You are spending quality time with your family, and if you go on morning walks, you also get sunlight. At WIN, we offer fitness classes, yoga sessions, and wellness workshops to enhance your well-being and equip you with the knowledge to improve your health.  3. Nutrition Education Programs If you’re looking to improve your nutrition, then increasing your protein and fiber intake is beneficial! Protein helps keep you full while reducing cravings, and fiber helps regulate bowel movements. Poultry and fish are excellent sources of protein. However, if you want to incorporate both protein and fiber, adding beans like lentils is a fantastic way to do so! Many people overlook water intake, but being hydrated is essential for your nutrition.  At WIN, we offer nutrition education programs, cooking classes, and healthy eating workshops to promote balanced diets and informed food choices. Your nutrition plays a significant role in your overall wellness. 4. Mental Health Awareness As much as you should take care of your physical health, you mustn’t overlook your mental health as well. When times get hectic, we often become overwhelmed and forget to take care of ourselves. Poor mental health can negatively impact your emotions, cognitive functions, and behavioral health. While physical health can help improve our mental health, it sometimes may not be enough. This is why at WIN, we have mental health campaigns, stress management workshops, and community events designed to promote mental well-being and increase access to valuable mental health resources. We understand that times may be challenging, and we want to provide you with support along the way. 5. Resource Referrals & Ongoing Support If you need any additional support, we connect individuals and families with additional resources such as healthcare providers, wellness programs, and support groups. Let’s create a healthier, happier, and more supportive community together here .

  • Growing Together: Lessons from My Mentor and Mentee Journey

Mentorship is more than just advise; it is a relationship based on trust, growth, and mutual learning. Nasya, the founder of Mirakul Moments, has guided me throughout my path, and her wisdom and leadership continue to impact how I approach both my personal and professional life. Learning as a Mentee Having a mentor like Nasya means having someone who believes in me, even though I am still learning to believe in myself. She provides advise, support, and accountability, which motivates me to keep growing. Whether I'm navigating school, planning my career, or juggling personal commitments, her viewpoint allows me to see problems as possibilities. One of the most essential things I've learnt from her is that progress requires consistency. Small steps taken over time boost confidence and open doors. Stepping into Mentorship Being Nasya's mentee has also encouraged me to give back. Even at the early phases of my own trip, I've recognized I have experiences to share. Supporting others, whether by keeping them organized, encouraging them through difficulties, or simply listening, has taught me that mentorship is a continuous process. We learn from those who have gone before us and strengthen those who will follow us. Why This Relationship Matters Mentorship promotes community. It reminds us that we don't have to sort things out on our own. Nasya has taught me that success is more than simply personal accomplishments; it is also about how we help others up along the road. As I continue to mature, I hope to take that same spirit of mentoring forward. Stay Connected with Me: If you want to find or become a mentor, start by reaching out. Look for someone you appreciate or who could benefit from the encouragement you have received. Mentorship is not about having all the answers; rather, it is about growing together.  ➡️ Follow me on Instagram  and   Facebook  ➡️ Connect with me on LinkedIn Become a mentor today!

  • How My Mentor Shaped My Path

I still remember the first time I met Dr. Nela Jimenez. I was nervous, full of questions, and so unsure of my future. Within seconds, she made me feel welcomed, seen, and capable. We instantly clicked with each other. Today, I want to share how much Dr. Nela has made an impact on my life. Before I met Dr. Nela, I was not too sure of what I wanted to do after college. I was hyper-focused on book publicity, my dream job. I'm studying communications with a focus in public relations, and I have a love for reading, so it made sense to me. However, I was equipped with tools to succeed at the time. How could I meet all of these requirements entry-level jobs expect of me? I felt very nervous for post-grad before I even began my senior year. When I finally met Dr. Nela for the first time, she shared her experiences and was very openminded with what I have to say. She opened up my eyes to many different career paths than just publicity or public relations. At the end of my college road, my degree will only say communications. This changed my perspective entirely. She told me about the many different jobs I could have with my communications degree like a journalist, event planner, editor, and more! Since that first conversation, she continues to be a wonderful mentor and role model in my life. Dr. Nela is practically my personal cheerleader! I have learned a lot, such as: How to write professionally while keeping a personal touch Looking at my career path with an open mind and heart How to navigate connections with others in the workplace and in life Fast forward to the present, I feel more ready to navigate my career than ever before. I owe everything and more to my wonderful mentor, Dr. Nela Jimenez. Become a mentor today!

  • Why Are Mentors Important?

There are many reasons why having mentors in life are important, they are able to give you advice and knowledge, show you encouraging ways on how to think or perform a task, strive in professional (or personal) goals, and most importantly give you someone to trust in to build you up along the way. In my life I have had the opportunity of having a few mentors in my life, whether they have been there for a short or long period of time. A few people come to mind (family, people within my community, or in my jobs) that have impacted me either personally or professionally. Currently, I would like to talk about Sarah Curcio, my mentor from the Women Into Networking company. Meeting Sarah through the WIN community as a Social Media Intern, I have learned a lot in the short amount of time I have worked with her, throughout the group mentorship (along with the other interns) and alongside the work I have done with her company Sarah Social Strategies. I have learned insights on social media outlets, learning your audience and reaching them, blog posts, email marketing campaigns, and even getting into event planning in the work world. Not only has she been really helpful in showing the small details of social media but the bigger picture of the things I am learning within this internship! Personally, I do tend to get caught up in some of the work I am doing and forget to take a step back. When I had confided in Sarah about this, she was able to give her perspective on how to approach it from a different angle. Her insight has been extremely supportive! Become a mentor today!

  • Behind the Screens: My Social Media Mentee Experience with Inspiring Mentors

My Time as a Mentee So far, my time as a mentee to Ernise Cummings and Sarah Curcio has been fruitful. I’ve gained extensive hands-on experience in helping establish a social media presence for a nonprofit. At Secret Miracles, their goal is to help students succeed in their careers and college opportunities by providing professional mentoring to achieve their career goals. Much of my work is centered around creating informative Instagram reels and captions for Secret Miracles. Because of this, I needed guidance in understanding not only how to make the content, but also the intentions behind Secret Miracles. Sarah has helped me a lot in developing the reels. Through Ernise’s lens for Secret Miracles, it is far easier to create content that captures Secret Miracles' mission. Skills Developed Although our meetings are kept short, each meeting serves a purpose. Sarah ensures that I am not only on track with each task but also guides me through any questions I may have. Ernise is there in case I have questions regarding Secret Miracle’s branding. As a mentee to Sarah and Ernise, I am eager to go into each meeting to see what is next on the to-do list. I’ve been able to develop video editing skills on CapCut and improve my Canva skills! Although I am a mentee, I have been able to research skills outside of the mentorship that have significantly improved my video editing skills. Helping create creative content for Secret Miracles has taught me to be flexible with the kind of content that is promoted. Instagram has a consumerist nature, being tailored to businesses that sell physical products. So far, the goal has been to raise awareness for Secret Miracles.  We have been doing a good job on it! Recommendation My mentors have been fantastic. They have made my time as a mentee to Secret Miracles and Women into Networking (WIN) go smoothly. They are incredibly understanding and cooperative, even when college classes get difficult. If you are looking for a mentor to help you get started with Social Media, Sarah and Ernise are wonderful! Become a mentor today!

  • Empowering Women … Navigating Networking in Today's Professional World

We network anywhere and everywhere throughout our daily lives. From work to school to social spots, whether we realize it or not, these daily interactions shape our path to success. WIN aims to help women succeed and connect with others in their career field. There are a lot of misconceptions that networking is simply for surface connections alone when it does so much more. It can be one of the most powerful tools you have to reach your goals! Networking is an opportunity for: Access to valuable resources to guide you towards success Mentorship from those with experience Boosting confidence Personal and professional growth Career advancement through authentic connections The Importance of Networking A report from Forbes states, "women's networking plays a crucial role in achieving most career milestones." Successful networking is much more than making the connection. It's about building a community and helping others find opportunities to shine! Another report from LinkedIn states that 85% of jobs come from networking ! However, networking can be used for much more than job hunting. Networking can help you: Stay informed about major events, news, and changes in your field Share and discover innovative ideas Receive and offer advice Boost your visibility and reputation Increase proactivity in both career and life Overall, networking is intended to be a collaborative experience intended to help others thrive! Overcoming Challenges While networking can be a powerful tool, there are certain hurdles women face trying to navigate their way to their goals and building professional connections. There are concerns with limited access to networking due to working in male-dominated industries. This leads to intimidation and lack of confidence in one's own achievements. Others also have trouble with work life balance and feel they can't fit networking into their schedule. Thankfully, there are many networking opportunities outside of the workplace! Building intentional, inclusive spaces where women feel empowered to connect is key. WIN has created this exact environment where women share their businesses, advice, events, and more! Boosting confidence takes effort as well! Start out small with reaching out to professionals on social platforms like Facebook or LinkedIn then attend events to connect with some amazing professionals! Not everyone is perfect at small talk and that's okay! Confidence grows with every connection made. Showing up as your perfect, authentic self and supporting one another, women can break these barriers and open up doors for everyone. Tips for Effective Networking Networking doesn't have to feel awkward or transactional, despite how it looks from a glance. When done effectively, it can be empowering, energizing, and even fun! Here are some tips to help you hit the ground running: Be intentional. Know what you're looking for and go after it. Whether it's advice, mentorship, or job searching, let that be the guide for the conversation Be authentic. People connect much better and deeper when genuine. How can one do that while engaging in something for mutual professional gain? Talk about you interests, goals, and passions wholeheartedly! Be open and honest. Give as much as you take. Networking is a two-way street! Offer support, share resources, and celebrate others. Building trust goes a long way. Follow up. It's not just a "one--and--done" operation. It's important to follow up with a note or message thanking the person for their time and looking forward to talking again soon! This shows how much you valued the time shared and the connection made. Stay consistent. Make it a habit! Attend meetings, join professional groups, and engage online! Having a wide network requires a lot of engagement! Inspiring Story This story comes from a woman I admire deeply, my mother, Tovi Taylor. She is currently the Head of Brand and Communications for Best Egg and the mom of three. Becoming a mother at 21, she struggled with the work-life balance and needed a support system both personally and professionally. Fortunately, Tovi is surrounded by a supportive family and had many relatives to watch me as a baby. Of course, she was torn by the fact that she couldn't spend more time with me due to work, but I couldn't be more proud of where that work got her today. She continues to be my favorite role model everyday. Tovi is a warm and wonderful human being. She has the perfect personality for connecting with people and never let the challenges of being a young mother stop her. Networking is a high priority on her list. The company she is with today, she got recruited by a previous boss and worked her way up to the role she has now. With persistence, support, and the courage to reach out, women can turn their challenges into stepping stones. Networking isn't just a professional strategy, it's an essential tool for life. Building a quality network can create a strong community with opportunities along the way. While there are inevitable challenges, there are limitless rewards for your authentic connections. WIN strives to be that safe space for women to connect and grow with each other. Whether you're just starting out, returning to work, or taking your career to the next level, you don't have to do it alone! Every conversation brings you closer to your goals.
