In today's world where everything can seem so fast-paced and busy it is important that we are taking our mindfulness into consideration and find ways to incorporate self-care into our routines. Everyday we are always trying to find ways to balance relationships, work, and responsibilities while also trying to find time for ourselves. Being able to recharge and rest our minds is a necessity and shouldn't be something that we take lightly. It’s how we restore our energy, improve our mood, and protect our mental health. Here are five simple but powerful ways to bring more self-care into your life, starting today.

1.Mini Resets Throughout the Day

  • Mini resets can prevent an individual to have "burnout" and at the end of the day help you stay connected with yourself internally

  • Build in short breaks throughout your day whether that is to take a step away to breathe, stretch, or go take a step outside to get fresh air

  • Listening to something that brings you peace (whether that is a podcast, music, or an audio book you enjoy) or journaling your thoughts/drawing

2.Set Boundaries to Protect Your Energy

  • Say no to things that may drain and/or overwhelm your daily or weekly schedule

  • Limit time with the individuals that may have you feeling low and unfulfilled, activities that are draining, and protect your space to recharge

3.Taking Time to Check In

  • Asking daily questions such as "What do I need right now mentally, physically, emotionally? OR Is your self-care actually helping you feel better?

  • Taking time to think about these questions about self-awareness can be the foundation of self-care - it can help you respond to your needs rather than react to stress

4.Set Goals For Yourself

  • Setting little goals for yourself can improve the feeling of stress or being overwhelmed and will increase the feeling of being accomplished and a serotonin aspect

  • Choosing things that are a "must do" on your list and things that could possibly wait is a game changer as well. This can make those harder small tasks or simple goals that need to be done feel as if there is a bigger weight lifted.

  • Learning to say “no” to newer tasks is a must if the pressure of starting to feel like you’re taking on too much is becoming a lot - it is important that you try to appreciate the goals you've completed throughout the day, however big or small, matter!

5.Connecting With Those Who Give You Peace

  • The feeling of safety that you can get by surrounding yourself by friends and family that make you happy, safe, and loved is something everyone should have

  • Having people you trust can help you discuss things that you may be struggling with at the moment and talk about your feelings so you don't have to deal with life alone

  • As the feeling of safety increases, your ability to think about things with a clear mind will become greater and they may also be able to give you a different perspective on events happening or other ways to regulate your self-care
